Description
‘…he had launched himself off the shelf, through into the kitchen, and was making for the glow of light. By an adroit sideslip, he miraculously got his wingspan through the door of the lounge and, with only the light on the table at the end to aim at, came flapping down the room like some great roc out of the Adventures of Sinbad.
Just off the table he started to backflap in preparation for a landing, a manoeuvre that successfully emptied the icing sugar bowl equally over everyone around the table, and then, with his great webbed feet held stiffly out like a pair of water skis, he hit the pavlova. This had much the same effect as jumping into a cow pat with both feet wearing oversize gumboots, and then, with continuing momentum, he skidded down the table with a bow wave of pavlova and wine glasses in front of him and a trail of debris behind.’
