Description
Kidnapped in Rome is the ninth volume in A Daring Adventure, a Christian action-adventure youth fiction series written by Peter Reese Doyle. The book follows a trio of resourceful teenagers who rely on their deep faith, survival training, and quick thinking to foil a dangerous criminal operation in Italy.
The Set-Up in Rome
The story tracks siblings Mark and Penny Daring alongside their close friend, 17-year-old David Curtis, who are visiting Italy with the siblings’ father, Jim Daring. While taking in the majestic historic ruins and ancient structures of Rome, the teenagers notice something unsettling: they are actively being stalked through the crowded streets by a group of hostile thugs. Unbeknownst to the trio, these criminals belong to a highly sophisticated, underground counterfeiting operation. To protect themselves and frame Mr. Daring’s prominent Italian business partner, the gang surreptitiously plants phony, counterfeit money directly on Penny.
The Escape and The Trapping
Realising the immediate danger, the three teens utilize their wilderness and survival skills to barely outrun the criminals in a breathless foot chase, successfully fleeing to local authorities. Hoping to find safety, a place to relax, and distance from the threat, Mr. Daring moves the teenagers out of the city to his business partner’s private villa located in the remote Italian countryside.
However, the safety of the countryside turns out to be short-lived. The counterfeit syndicate tracks them to the rural estate, cornering the teenagers and leaving them completely cut off and trapped.
The Crisis and The Night-Time Raid
The stakes escalate dramatically when the gang strikes the villa, kidnapping both Mr. Daring and their Italian host. The criminals hold the two men for a massive ransom, leaving Mark, Penny, and David as their fathers’ only hope for survival.
Refusing to give up and relying heavily on desperate prayers for strength and wisdom, the three teenagers formulate a dangerous rescue plan. The climax of the novel centers on a high-stakes, daring night-time raid orchestrated by the teens to infiltrate the criminal hideout, rescue the adults, and execute a wild vehicle escape to bring the ring to justice.
