Description
WILDLIFE OF THE SOUTH SEAS
F. A. RCEDELBERGER
& VERA 1. GROSCHOFF
A new volume in.the well known series
which has included Mrican Wildlife,
The Wonderful World of Nature, and
The Wonders of Wildlife in Europe.
The present volume contains 250 photo-
graphs chosen from the work of sixty
photographers, illustrating the animal
life of the Indo- Pacific, Indonesia, Austra-
lia, Oceania and Galapagos. The text des-
cribes the animals illustrated and gives
details of their behaviour, migrations and
evolution. The book has a definite pat-
tern, each illustration and its accom-
panying text following logically to give a
complete picture of a fauna with many
unusual characteristics.
The book opens by describing the birth
and growth of coral islands and goes on to
consider the importance of ocean cur-
rents, winds, and geological upheaval, in
the evolution of animal types peculiar to
the South Seas. A survey of all the kinds
of animal life follows, the text showing
without doubt that the authors are true
naturalists who are greatly disturbed by
the decimation of wildlife that seems to
follow the path of civilisation.
