Description
Young Peter, a student of Byzantlne
Art at Moscow University, receives,
through a cryptic sentence in a
lecture, a message to buy two books
of his choice at a specific hour in the
University bookshop. When he opens
the package, a third book has been
included. It is this third book which
sends Peter on a series of adventures
leading to the unravelling of a
mysterious power source guiding the
destinies of planet Earth. His quest
is also intimately linked with his
father’s baffling disappearance.
Once again the Hoyles have
succeeded in combining an
enjoyable piece of story-telling with
scientific speculation of lasting
interest.
About the authors
Sir Fred Hoyle, one of the world’s
foremost cosmologists, honoured by
many countries, has made major
contributions to the literature of his
subject; but to the general public he
is probably best known as the author
of such books as The Nature of the
Universe and Frontiers of Astronomy
and, more recently, Astronomy
Today – best-selling works of
popular exposition which have been
translated into many languages. He
has also a dozen science fiction
novels to his credit, including such
classics as The Black Cloud and
Ossian’s Ride.
Geoffrey Hoyle, Fred Hoyle’s son,
left Cambridge University to work in
modern communications and
motion pictures before becoming a
full-time writer, sometimes in
collaboration with his father but
often independently. He and his wife
Valerie love to travel abroad and
swim in warm waters. He is an
expert marksman at pistol shooting.
