Description
A War Novel that Will Live THE YOUNG LIONS IRWIN SHAW ON a day in April 1945 three young men come face to face in a Bavarian forest. One is an Austrian Nazi, a former ski-ing instructor who has become a sergeant in the German Army; the others, a Hollywood writer and a Jewish artisan, are American private soldiers. Their story begins before the war and follows them, independently, as each develops in his own way under the impress of battle, danger, fear, sorrow, degrada- tion, and as they move between America, France, Ger- many, North Africa and Britain; through scenes sometimes violent, sometimes tender, but always passionate and passionately written. Finally, the three converge to the encounter which only one survives. IRWIN SHA W served as a private in the D.S. Army in the Middle East, England, France and Germany, and was promoted to Warrant Officer in the last year of the War. His first success was as a dramatist; after radio serials he produced film scripts and stage plays. A volume of short stories and many short stories for the New Yorker preceded this, his amazing first novel. In fair to good condition with some age related colour change to pages and spotting here and there. A classic, well worth a read but certainly not a pristine copy.
