Description
Never have New Zealand’s Rugby followers
(for whom the game is a passion rather than
a pastime) been offered such a fascinating
and comprehensive reference book devoted to
their game.
Compiled by the authors of the best-selling
Men In Black, this companion volume
represents years of painstaking research for
facts, figures and photographs. The reader in
turn will enjoy years of browsing through a
museum of memories, discovering new infor-
mation plus the instant answers to most
Rugby questions.
In a virtual ‘Who’s Who’ of New Zealand
Rugby from 1884 to the end of 1980, the
authors have written biographies on all 819
All Blacks, players who were unlucky to miss
the honour of the black jersey and those New
Zealanders who have represented other coun-
tries. Chapters are also devoted to top
referees and the administrators who have
controlled the game in this country.
The origins of Rugby are explored, along
with the history and results of major
trophies, inter-island, Maori, services,
university and secondary school football.
Details are provided on the separate unions
in New Zealand together with every senior
grade club currently playing in the many
championships.
Personnel and results are given for All Black
touring teams, home Test series and overseas
international sides to visit New Zealand. Plus
many pages of statistics.
A superb collection of photographs – some
rare and never before published – accom-
pany the text of this, the ultimate in Rugby
reference books.
